ABOUT

Chongqing Wulong temple

Eighteen-year-old Arelia Jin was raised by grandparents who made the world feel small, safe, and permanent. On her birthday, she arrives at her New York home to find them murdered and a blood sigil painted above their bodies. Before the night ends, she learns three things: her gentle grandparents were the most feared warriors of a hidden realm called Kun Lun, her eyes have awakened a power her own bloodline was sworn to destroy, and whoever killed them is coming for her next.

Some of my favourite quotes…

  • “And in my experience, humans suffer from a peculiar affliction. They must name things.” A dry hum escaped him. “So do I, to be fair, you’ve seen my shop. But the trouble begins when you give a name to something you do not understand. That’s what a curse truly is. A convenience. A vessel you can pour your fear into, and pretend you’ve contained it.”

    —— Li Li

  • “Combat is deception,” he said. “And information is not truth. Remember that.”

    —— ShaoJun

  • “You have a survival instinct of a dumpling, don’t you, Vermillion?”

    —— Aiden Ouyang-Blackwell

  • 「我個乖孫，我地從來冇離開過你。」

“My dear grandchild, we have never left you.”

    —— Lin TianYu, Jin ShaoCheng

  • “Light work.”
